At our first two rehearsals we went over Soave sil vento and Nella Fantasia and started learning Only You. Really fun rehearsals and a nice sound!

I have received a plethora of compliments from a large number of gala attendees today at a number of WSNG events We have been running today at TfL offices. The ABBA medley was particularly popular and they loved our sound. Well done LTC!!
Jenny Congratulations on a fantastic performance at London’s living room at the top of City Hall!
Many thanks to the ever effervescent Marika Rauscher, making her LTC debut on piano! We started the first set with the glorious tones of our soloist Robert Allen singing ‘Stand by me’ ... when the choir kicked in it was an impressive sound and the harmonies were beautiful. Our duetting Palestra girls were next (Jenny and Sam) and I thought they blended together beautifully easing us into a rousing Mamma Mia medley! Our second half (we had to use all the projection we had!) went excellently well with rousing performances of both Proud Mary and Blame it on the Boogie! We ended as we began with my personal favourite ‘Stand by me’ We received lots of compliments from Michelle Dix to security guards (I was even told in the loo that one lady thought we were professionals!) So a success all round and I’m a very proud MD! Good night! AmyBeth Beel What a brilliant rehearsal just now! As final arrangements are being made for next Monday’s gig at City Hall we worked through the Abba Medley, polished off Proud Mary and then reprised We will Rock You. All but two of our singers for Monday were there and we had a brilliant session. The tenors and basses were promoted to the front row / put under closer supervision (delete as appropriate) and as AmyBeth said later on WhatsApp
'Brilliant rehearsal guys! It’s sounding really fabulous! All your practising is paying off! Happy conductor.' Note to singers - practise singing in a less posh English / Welsh / Scottish accent for Saderdai. Ok! So our plan is -
Stand by me ABBA medley Break We will rock you Proud Mary Blame it on the Boogie Stand by me reprise AmyBeth Yesterday we learned Stand by me (as featured in 'that wedding') from scratch and we're almost performance ready. We also refreshed We will Rock You.
On Tuesday 19 February we plan to sing: Proud Mary warm up This is me Wade in the water Blame it on the Boogie- sing through Then on Tuesday 26 February the programme is Proud Mary Stand by me Wade in the water- clean ups We're planning an extra rehearsal on Saturday 2 March Our gig is on Monday 4 March at City Hall - more details to follow. Michael At our rehearsal on Tuesday we learned We will rock you by Queen for our IWD event on 4 March. This Saturday we will be working on a well-known spiritual called Wade in the Water. And maybe revising some of the other pieces we've tackled this term. MP3s are being added to our 'Choir Resources' page as they become available.
Here is a recording of We will rock you. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fiq2-bUvt8Y Michael After assorted holidays, returns to work and the like, we gathered together for a Saturday afternoon workshop at 55 Broadway with AmyBeth back, being her usual flamboyant but thoughtful self, with babysitting safely delegated.
We worked on a couple of warm-ups, specially selected for our Australian sisters (The Kookaburra Tree) and for those more disposed towards the train (To stop the train). Needless to say I liked both but my favourite (which I just can't get out of my head after two days) was: To stop the train in cases of emergency, Pull down the chain! Pull down the chain! Penalty for improper use, Five pounds! After an Australian themed break with tea and tasty home-made treats we did some serious work on the first page and a half of Amazing Grace, splitting into two separate groups and working out the breathing, phrasing, dynamics, emphasis and adding a few extra passing notes. Group one was SSSAT and group two SSAAT (no basses around) and we certainly came up with different interpretations. Normal rehearsals resume tomorrow, Tuesday 29 January at 17:45 for 18:00 at 55 Broadway. Repertoire to include Blame it on the Boogie and Say My Name Again. Michael We have had a very successful and enjoyable Christmas season with three events all well patronised and, as people said, some lovely singing. That has been in no small part to Merel who has been leading us this term while AmyBeth has been taking time off to have her baby. At today's Railstaff event we heard readings from, among others, the Chair of the House of Commons Transport Committee, Lilian Green MP, the Chief Executive of RSSB, Mark Phillips, and our very own soprano and train driver extraordinaire, Maddy Corper. Millie Stokes sang the first verse of Once in Royal David's City (what a lovely voice!) and Sarah Best played the organ for us. How can I sum up a very successful year? One picture tells a thousand words, and the shot below, taken by Catherine, is all that I can say - but what a beautiful flower arrangement by Gabi!
