Following our enjoyable, and successful, event at the Bus Awards at Stratford last Friday, we have worked hard at two of our four rehearsals for the Welwyn Patronal Festival on Saturday 6 July. The rough running order is: Soave sia il vento Nella Fantasia Con Amoresi Sure on this Shining Night Seal Lullaby Solos. etc The ABBA medley Only you Uptown Funk Continental Railroad A transport of delight Bus Stop Solos and encores Today we polished all the repertoire for Friday's gig except for Abba and Some Enchanted Evening, both of which we know well. We also decided not to sing We will rock you this time round.
Details of Friday's concert arrangements have already been published and we can confirm that on Saturday our first full rehearsal for Welwyn will start at 2pm at 55 Broadway. If you can't arrive before 3pm, no problem: come when you can. We'll finish at five. The revised rehearsal schedule is on the Choir Resources Page. That's all for now! Michael The repertoire for our event at Stratford on Friday 21 June is now confirmed. We plan to sing Bus Stop, Moon River, The ABBA Medley, Some Enchanted Evening, Stand by Me, Transport of Delight, This is me, Waterloo Sunset, Uptown Funk and We Will Rock You.
This follows two very good rehearsals on Saturday 8 and Tuesday 11 June - the Tuesday one being very well attended indeed. We are also working on some of the repertoire for our Welwyn event on Saturday 6 July - more details to follow. A You Tube version of the Flanders and Swann 'Transport of Delight' from the show 'At the Drop of a Hat' is here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVHbF0jAzMw Enjoy and learn - remember that the upper voices will be singing the driver part and the lower voices, the conductor. Our next rehearsal will be on Tuesday 18 June at 55 Broadway from six pm. On Saturday we had a very productive three hour session with Merel taking us through most of the music for the Bus Awards gig on Friday 21 June. We sang Moon River, The Abba Medley, This is Me, Transport of Delight, and Stand by Me. We also worked on one of the pieces for the Welwyn Event on Saturday 6 July, the ever-lovely Soave sia il vento from Mozart's Cosi fan tutti. That would be Sweet is the wind from the opera All Women Do It in English. But I think we are getting the Italian pronunciation now ... Tonight's rehearsal is at 6pm at 55 Broadway. Do come!
Michael Ladies and Gentlemen,
It was great to be back singing with you all again and at Stratford - a new rehearsal venue to me. Merel led us through a whole range of music, mainly transport based songs for the bus event on Friday 21 June. We looked at Bus Stop; A transport of delight, which we are going to sing as upper voices covering the driver role and lower voices covering the conductor; Waterloo Sunset, (remember not to be to posh as Gabi would say but slightly more unrefined), This is me and the ABBA medley - all of it. We finished the evening singing one of the nicest prices going Sure on this shining night - a beautiful harmonic piece, quiet and refined. Stratford is a nice open space to rehearse in and is worth the trip out to. Please do keep practising your music at home and see you all at Saturday's rehearsal starting at 2pm at 55 The Broadway. Cheers, Bob Rehearsals have been taking place for our two summer events and Merel is leading the choir for the time being. We've had our first rehearsal at Stratford and we're working out the best pieces to sing at the Bus Awards event on Friday 21 June and then at St Mary Magdalene, Welwyn Garden City on Saturday 6 July. Watch this space for more information.
