After assorted holidays, returns to work and the like, we gathered together for a Saturday afternoon workshop at 55 Broadway with AmyBeth back, being her usual flamboyant but thoughtful self, with babysitting safely delegated.
We worked on a couple of warm-ups, specially selected for our Australian sisters (The Kookaburra Tree) and for those more disposed towards the train (To stop the train). Needless to say I liked both but my favourite (which I just can't get out of my head after two days) was: To stop the train in cases of emergency, Pull down the chain! Pull down the chain! Penalty for improper use, Five pounds! After an Australian themed break with tea and tasty home-made treats we did some serious work on the first page and a half of Amazing Grace, splitting into two separate groups and working out the breathing, phrasing, dynamics, emphasis and adding a few extra passing notes. Group one was SSSAT and group two SSAAT (no basses around) and we certainly came up with different interpretations. Normal rehearsals resume tomorrow, Tuesday 29 January at 17:45 for 18:00 at 55 Broadway. Repertoire to include Blame it on the Boogie and Say My Name Again. Michael
