NEW MEMBERS
Below is an article on Platform, the internal site for staff groups and interests within TfL.
Thanks to Committee member Zena for writing and organising this.
We are an amateur workplace choir whose main aim is to bring together colleagues from across the transport industry to sing at events and concerts. Membership is open to anyone working in, retired from, or with an interest in the transport industry in London.
Our members range in musical ability and experience from those who have never sung before and do not read music, to very experienced choristers who sing in other choirs and have excellent sight reading skills. No entrance audition is required to join the choir so that as many people as possible can benefit from being a member and enjoy singing with others.
We normally sing a wide repertoire of music from classical to rock via music from the shows and transport heritage songs, at a variety of interesting venues. We enjoy our highest turnout of singers for Transport for London’s carol service at St Paul’s Covent Garden and joint concerts with other European transport choirs (in Brussels, London and Paris).
Our aim is to keep subscriptions as low as possible so everyone who wants to can participate. Our outgoings are primarily for professional musicians – Musical Director and accompanists. We also use our subscriptions to allow us to hold our own concerts.
We rehearse on Tuesday evenings and some Saturday afternoons in either Southwark or Stratford. Details of current dates and locations are on the ACTIVITIES page. If you'd like to try out one or two of our rehearsals, email us at [email protected] so we can send you details. There is no need to join or pay anything until you've been to a rehearsal or two and found your feet!
We will provide you with music and rehearsal aids, and the singers around you will support you as you learn the repertoire. And you won't believe how exciting it is to perform in your first concert, whether in a cathedral, a church, a meeting venue, in the open air, or even on stage in a theatre.
All our communications with members comply with the GDPR regulations.
Once you join you will be able to connect to our WhatsApp page by which we share news and urgent messages.
